Git Bootcamp - An All-Day Workshop

Distributed version control is all the rage these days, but is it worth it? After completing this workshop you'll be able to do practical work with Git for your day job or weekend OSS hobby

This full day workshop takes you from the ground up with Git. By the end of the day you'll be proficient enough to contribute to an open source project using Git or to leverage inside your corporate as the canonical version control system.

Workshop Requirements

This session is a workshop. Please come prepared.

Please bring a Windows, Mac or Linux laptop
Please have administrative privileges on the laptop for installing software
Please install Git 1.7.10 or higher and ensure git is on your PATH (in the environment variable list of paths)
Please set up Git according to http://teach.github.com/articles/github-class-prerequisites

About Matthew McCullough

Matthew McCullough is an energetic 15 year veteran of enterprise software development, open source education, and co-founder of Ambient Ideas, LLC, a Denver consultancy. Matthew currently is VP of Training at GitHub.com, author of the Git Master Class series for O'Reilly, speaker at over 30 national and international conferences, author of three of the top 10 DZone RefCards, and President of the Denver Open Source Users Group. His current topics of research center around project automation: build tools (Gradle), distributed version control (Git, GitHub), Continuous Integration (Jenkins, Travis) and Quality Metrics (Sonar). CTO & Co-Founder of 0xdata

Cliff Click is the CTO and Co-Founder of 0xdata, a firm dedicated to creating a new way to think about web-scale data storage and real-time analytics. Cliff wrote his first compiler when he was 15 (Pascal to TRS Z-80!), although my most famous compiler is the HotSpot Server Compiler (the Sea of Nodes IR). I helped Azul Systems build an 864 core pure-Java mainframe that keeps GC pauses on 500Gb heaps to under 10ms, and worked on all aspects of that JVM.
